Full-Time Union Position
Job Summary
Assists with building the earthwork component of a project including site grading, road construction and improvements, drainage improvements, soil correction, foundation excavation and backfill, utilities, and any other necessary civil improvements required for a project.
List of Responsibilities
- Operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, graders, and bulldozers to lift, move or place equipment or materials
- Inspecting, cleaning, lubricating and refilling equipment
- Use various attachments to scoop and dump materials, dig trenches, load heavy materials, and break rock or concrete
- Controls height and angle of grader blades to spread and level earth or other materials
- Strictly follows safety regulations and work plans
- Communicates effectively with Topmen and Pipe Layers

Pipe Layer
Full-Time Union Position, $40-$45
Job Summary
Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for underground utilities. Ensure the ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Align pipes and seal joints together.
List of Responsibilities
- Align pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing per blueprints provided utilizing transit and laser systems.
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers
- Connect, cover pipe pieces, and seal joints
- Cut and bevel pipe to required lengths
- Dig trenches to desired or required depths by hand or using trenching tools
- Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools
- Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors
- Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices
- Safely and comfortable work with and around heavy equipment
- Understanding of all blueprints, SUDAS, and OSHA rules for installing said pipe
- Responsible for communicating with the top man regarding needed materials and instructing the operator as to the depth of cut and lowering of materials
- Must clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by PWS.
- Additional duties as assigned

Laborer
Full-Time Union Position, $22-$45
Job Summary
Performs tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. May operate hand and power tools of a variety of types. Clean and prepare sites and assist other craft workers.
List of Responsibilities
- Assists in installing utilities, including sewer, water, and storm drain
- Read grade stocks and/or site plans. Check grade
- Clean and prepare job sites
- Dig trenches
- Clean up rubble, debris, and other waste materials
- Set braces to support sides of excavations
- Compacting, shoveling, sweeping
- Some operation of heavy equipment
- Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring any concerns to the attention of Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent, or Management.
- Help identify any underground and overhead utilities that have been located/exposed
- Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials
- Maintain a clean job site: pick up all material, tools, and small equipment and secure the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards
- Work with small equipment
- Review trenching requirements with Superintendent and ensure any required protection is available

Mechanic Assistant
Full-Time $20-$30, plus benefits
Job Summary
Perform scheduled and non-maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Assist shop manager with mechanical repair work. Clean and organization of shop and yard.
List of Responsibilities
- Clean and organize shop and yard
- Wash and vacuum vehicles, replace bulbs, and ensures vehicle lights and turn signals are in proper working order
- Assist mechanic when equipment breaks down
- Maintain field equipment cleanliness
- Pick-up and delivery of auto parts and supplies
- Assist shop mechanic on necessary mechanical work
- Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Estimator/Project Manager
Full-Time Salaried Position
Job Summary
Prepares estimate of the cost of projects before the project begins. Manage through organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget.
List of Responsibilities
- Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracts for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
- Understand contract specifics, prepare submittals, and track approval in writing. Complete and track change orders with approval and in writing
- Identify opportunities, create advantages, and maximize bid profit
- Continuously track in-house production rates, analyze, and apply to future estimates
- Preparing contracts and negotiating revisions, changes, and addition to contractual agreements with consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Read economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
- Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Oversees the preparation of cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
- Oversees the planning organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating of construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget
- Oversees the development and implementation of quality control programs

Utility Foreman
Position Summary
The Underground Utility Foreman will actively participate in and coordinate utility work, supervise the field crew, order materials, and is responsible for the completion of projects in a safe and timely manner, while maintaining the highest quality of workmanship. Below is what is required for the Underground Utility Foreman position.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the construction field as a Utility Foreman.
- Civil Construction experience preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret plans and specifications.
- Ability to layout line and grade using surveying equipment (level, laser, pipe laser, GPS, etc.).
- Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Workload may include some travel and may require extended hours, including weekends.
- Ability to work outdoors, in all kinds of weather, on an active highway/heavy construction site.
- Must be able to hear warning signals and alarms.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Pre-Construction/Construction:
- Interpret and explain plans for construction of new projects; read and apply methods and procedures in drawings and layout work.
- Partner with the Project Manager/Superintendent to coordinate work schedules of all subcontractors on project(s).
- Attend all project related meetings/events such as safety meetings, supervisory meetings, scheduled training, and seminars.
- Complete and maintain daily job logs, including subcontractor work on project(s).
- Confer with project supervisory personnel, representatives from the owner, subcontractors, vendors, and utility companies to coordinate various phases of construction to resolve problems and prevent delays.
- Maintain and secure company materials, supplies, tools, and equipment. Order and maintain materials and assets.
Safety
- Know and apply safety rules and instructions in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Know and comply with the Company’s safety rules/policies and OSHA regulations. OSHA “Competent Person” valid First Aid Certification preferred.
- Model and enforce safe work practices, including articulating safety regulations and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for the safe performance of work.
- Attend and/or present weekly safety meetings and turn documentation into the Safety Manager.
- Immediately Report any safety violations, accidents, injuries, property damage or other claims to Safety Manager.
- Responsible for recognizing and correcting any unsafe conditions that may exist or occur on the job site. This includes assisting with job site inspections and reporting and following through with directions for abatement of any unsafe condition or hazard.
- Stay current on the location of overhead and underground utilities.
Supervision
- Conduct daily safety job hazard analysis meetings and complete weekly “Tool Box Talks” on assigned subjects.
- Together with Superintendent or Operations Management, review field personnel at the conclusion of each season.
- Oversee field crew to ensure correct methods of construction are employed and strict adherence to safety rules/regulations is in place.
- Look ahead and order appropriate materials and equipment.

- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- There is constant exposure to various weather conditions typical in the states where the work is performed, including noise, dust, and other materials.
- The work environment is in areas where heavy equipment, power tools and traffic are present.
- There is exposure to heights up to 50 feet and depths of up to 40feet in this construction work environment.
